IT WAS ALL UP HILL FOR THE SEDDON TEAM
Last weekend saw 68 employees from Seddon Group taking part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in aid of The Christie Hospital?s ?Magic Bullet? treatment. Split into three teams the participants had the added task of carrying and erecting a 3D jigsaw at the top of each peak in order to complete the 26 mile hike.
The three teams set off between 6.25am and 7am from Horton-in-Ribblesdale to ascend the first peak, Pen-y-Ghent (691M) before making their way over Black Dub Moss to the Ribblehead viaduct to start the climb up Whernside (728m). The final peak, Ingleborough (723m) brought the challenge to a close.
The first team completed the marathon hike in just under 9 hours including carrying the jigsaw. The second team completed the challenge in just under 10 and a half hours with the final team completing personal challenges.
?This is a huge physical challenge when you think about it in terms of distance alone,? comments Stephen Seddon, Director in charge of the Seddon/Christie Partnership. ?Add into this that its walking the equivalent of a marathon both up and down hills, over rough terrain and carrying a large 3D jigsaw and you can see that this isn?t something that we took on lightly.?
?This was such a fantastic event and we really are proud to take part for The Christie. Our charity partnership had an excellent first year and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks is going to raise in the region of ?12,000 for the Magic Bullet Treatment. We are certainly pushing ourselves harder this year to reach our overall two year target of ?250,000.?
The Seddon/Christie Partnership is raising funds for the research and development of the ?Magic Bullet? cancer treatment which is being pioneered by The Christie. The Magic Bullet has proven to be a more accurate method of treating cancer ? hence its name and early trials carried out at The Christie in Manchester on patients with lymphoma cancers and leukaemia have produced remarkable results.
