Background

Formed in 2003 and originally called the Liverpool Housing Trust Group, Vicinity Group renamed itself in 2006 and owns and manages nearly 16,000 properties across Merseyside.

The Group has made a significant contribution across Merseyside and Cheshire through the provision of affordable homes and its support for the creation of attractive, safe neighbourhoods and sustainable communities.

Project

Seddon is partnering Vicinity in the development of 44 apartments and 19 houses at Castlefields, Runcorn, worth £6.4m over a two year period. Partners have adopted the PPC2000 form of contract and Seddon will be assisting with demolition of some of the existing deck access blocks of flats.

Vicinity secured over £2.5 million grant funding from the Housing Corporation for the scheme, with support from Halton BC.

Once the first properties are constructed, residents will be moved from their existing concrete construction flats into newly built homes before Seddon coordinates the demolition. The proposal also includes a number of new affordable homes for sale, under the government funded Homebuy scheme.

This project is the second phase in Vicinity's plans for Castlefields and forms part of a wider range of regeneration projects identified under the Halton Council Masterplan for the area and includes new footpaths, improved signage, street lighting upgrades and a new community skate park and meeting facility called Phoenix Park.

Seddon is expected to be involved in the future regeneration phases in Castlefields.

Endorsement

"Following a rigorous two-stage tender and selection process between constructors on our Framework, Seddon was short listed and based upon their competitive pricing and invaluable experience in this sector, we were unanimous in our decision to enlist them."

Gill Ferris, Head of Development at Vicinity Group
