Background

BUPA is one of the UK's largest providers of care homes, providing a choice of residential and nursing homes, for frail elderly people or those with dementia related illnesses. The Seddon Group was approached by BUPA to complete a redecoration project in a nursing home in Worcestershire.

Project

Seddon suggested using Climasan, a revolutionary interior paint which degrades harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, as well as odours. The active ingredient in the paint is a catalyst which is stimulated by light, - either natural or artificial.

It is typically used in areas such as pubs, hospitals, toilets and kitchens, and comes in a huge range of colours. In addition, Climasan is a product which has no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's). VOCs are toxic compounds found in paint, and the emissions from them can lead to allergic reactions and ill-health.

The UK has agreed to cut VOC emissions drastically by 2010, making the Seddon Group one of the first major painting contractors to use paints which actually break down hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.

Endorsement

"Following completion of the works it was very apparent that the odours had dissipated and the environment was relatively odour free."
