Background
Seddon has worked in partnership with North British Housing for over 5 years. NBH is part of the Places for People Group, one of the UK's leading housing and regeneration specialists responsible for more than 52,000 homes in England, Scotland and Wales.
The focus of the Group is to improve existing neighbourhoods and create new ones. The Group employs around 1600 people and has Group Support Centres in London, Preston and York together with 25 local offices around the country.
Project
Seddon provides NBH with pre-paint repairs and cyclical redecoration, servicing the majority of their 50, 000 houses. Since the start of the project Seddon has re-invested £120, 000 back into the partnership. This was used to purchase hand-held PDA's to survey and record detailed information on site to help to formulate budgets.
A contribution was also made to an NBH DVD which was distributed to more than 50,000 North British Housing (NBH) and New Leaf households across the UK.
Entitled 'I Want to Enjoy My Home', the DVD looks at how neighbours used to view their local communities and how things have changed in recent years. It aims to inspire people by example and help them to understand their responsibilities as a member of a community.
Examples of the work shown on the DVD include a garden makeover scheme in Newcastle, a youth centre scheme in Preston, a scheme encouraging young people and the elderly to mix in Manchester, a garden makeover in Lowestoft, and a residents' group in Earls Court that got together to help solve a parking problem in their neighbourhood.
Endorsement
"Seddon's management of the Design & Build Contract has been exemplary. A committed team have worked constantly to provide a project that has been carried out on time, within budget and with limited disruption to the on-site occupants. The overcladding has made a dramatic difference to the skyline in Brinnington and proved to be a great success both in aesthetic and function terms. SMBC look forward to the successful completion of further projects currently underway."
