Background
Keele University is the UK's largest integrated campus university and occupies a 617 acre estate, with Grade II registration by English Heritage.
Located in Staffordshire, Keele is a major contributor to its local economy. With a turnover in excess of £50m, and a total staff of some 1,400, the University generates around £40m of business in the region.
Project
The Seddon Group is undertaking an innovative Partnering project with Keele University. The contract, which spans six years, is for the refurbishment of student bedrooms with an anticipated out-turn value of £16 million.
Won against major competition under EEC and Partnering rules, the process took some nine months to complete and was the result of an intense selection process.
Endorsement
"On any refurbishment project it is difficult to be prescriptive about the exact nature of work that is needed from a contractor. Flexibility has been one of Seddon?s real strong points, as they have adapted plans as the project has developed. A partnership approach with Seddon has certainly proved to be the best way of delivering our objectives - creating an attractive environment for students that they want to live in."
